Endowed Chair in Creativity & Emeritus Professor

Dr. Wu Jing-Jyi obtained his Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1967 and taught at U.S. universities before returning to Taiwan to eventually chair the National Chengchi University (NCCU) Department of Psychology. He is currently the Endowed Chair in Creativity at NCCU’s Center for Creativity and Innovation Studies, Honorary Chair Professor at National Sun Yat-sen University, and Distinguished Chair Professor at Taipei National University of the Arts. Author and editor of 22 books, including four bestsellers, numerous published journal papers, and a wealth of magazine and newspaper articles, much of his work has focused on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. His most recent books include “Alluring Creativity” (創造力是性感的), “Chance Encounters and Creativity: My Life Educating in a World without Walls” (擺渡人：吳靜吉的生命故事), and “Stimulating Creativity” (創造力的激發). Engaging in creativity research and education has been his life time calling. For this, he was awarded the Wooden Bell Award (中國測驗學會推薦之木鐸獎) from the Chinese Psychological and Educational Testing Association in 1990. In 2014, he was selected as a University of Minnesota Distinguished Chinese Alumni.

In the public sector, Dr. Wu has served as a national policy adviser to multiple presidents in Taiwan over the past several decades and board chairman of the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center. Currently, he is a board member of the National Performing Arts Center.

Dr. Wu was once a theater artist of La MaMa Theatre in New York, and was co-founder and artistic director of Taiwan’s influential Lanling Theatre Workshop.

Dr. Wu served as executive director for the Fulbright Foundation for Scholarly Exchange for 32 years. He received a Certificate of Appreciation in 2009 from the U.S. State Department for “a distinguished record of achievement that is unsurpassed in promoting the Fulbright ideal of mutual understanding among peoples and nations” and in 2018, FSE established the Fulbright–Wu Jing-Jyi Arts & Culture Fellowship in his honor.

He recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education for contributions in arts education and a Taiwan Cultural Collaboration Medal from the Ministry of Culture.
