Taipei Lantern Festival Westside Carnival
Taipei Lantern Festival, est. 1997, is one of the biggest lantern festivals in Taiwan. Every year, the festival receives nearly ten thousand visitors. The highlight of this annual festival is not only the innovative record-breaking main lantern designs, the enormous amount of traditional lanterns, and lighted streets, but also its combination of creativity and technology. This integration breaks the limitation of traditional lantern festivals making advertisements with eye-catching features. This festival is a success story of combining public art with traditional festivals.
The theme of the 2017 Taipei Lantern Festival is “Westside Story, Taipei Glory” portraying different faces of the westside and the new fashion charm of Taipei. The festival has invited teams around the world, including folk arts, children’s theater, pop music, juggling, etc. Besides, some programs have planned to cooperate with local teams and residents to demonstrate the energy of Ximenting.
Paperwindmill has built the westside carnival with a series of activities. The parade consists of the guardian Lin Moniang, red envelope club floats, the man with tattoos representing modern humanity, interactive drones, arts on the egg cartons, rooster floats, and balloon Taipei Bravo bear.
